Ranges are typical market figures and vary by lender, state, and borrower profile.

Payday loans

Lump-sum repayment

A payday loan is due in full on your next payday, usually within two to four weeks. The fee is often $15 to $30 per $100 borrowed. Because the whole balance comes due at once, many borrowers renew the loan and pay the fee again. An installment loan spreads the cost across several paychecks instead.

Car title loans

Secured by your vehicle

A title loan uses your car as collateral, which lets you borrow more, but you can lose the car if you fall behind. Unsecured installment loans never put your vehicle at risk.

State-licensed installment loans

State rate caps apply

Storefront and online lenders licensed in your state must follow its rate caps, which often makes them cheaper than tribal loans. They may ask for a credit check and take a day or two longer.

Credit union payday alternative loans

Cheapest small loan

Federal credit unions offer Payday Alternative Loans (PALs) with an APR capped at 28% and an application fee of no more than $20. You usually need to be a member, sometimes for at least a month, before you can apply.

Online personal loans

Best for good credit

Lenders like SoFi, Upstart, and LendingClub offer larger loans at far lower APRs, but they usually expect fair or better credit and verified income.

Cash advance apps

Small, fast, low cost

Apps like EarnIn, Dave, and Brigit advance part of your next paycheck with no interest, charging optional tips, express fees, or a monthly subscription. Limits usually start low and rarely exceed $500.

Buy now, pay later

For purchases only

Affirm, Klarna, and Afterpay split a purchase into smaller payments, often at 0% interest. They work at checkout and cannot put cash in your account for bills or rent.

Credit builder loans

Builds your credit

Your payments go into a locked savings account and are reported to the credit bureaus. You receive the money at the end, so this helps your score but does not cover an emergency today.

Secured credit cards

Long-term credit repair

A refundable deposit sets your credit limit. Used carefully, a secured card is one of the most reliable ways to rebuild credit over six to twelve months.

605 Lending vs similar online lenders

Several other tribal lenders offer similar online installment loans. Terms change often, so always check the lender's own site and your loan agreement.
